Dirty Campaigning: Can't We All Just Get Along?

What is Dirty Campaining?
"Trying to win an advantage by referring to negative aspects of an opponent or of a policy rather than emphasizing one's own positive attributes or preferred policies." -Wikipedia

You may be seeing dirty campaigning more than you realize. Have you ever seen something like this?

What Now?
The only pondering thought lurking now, is whether or not dirty campaigning is truly effective.

I think that dirty campaigning is something that our candidates tend to use in order to make voters lean in their favor. Especially in the current campaign ads for the November 2nd, 2010 election, we can really see that political ads have become nothing but dirty commercials attempting to attack an opponent in an ignorant and incompetent way.

What Do I Think?
I, myself personally think that dirty campaigning shows complete unprofessionalism. Why would our citizens want to vote for someone that would do anything they could to demoralize someone else. I think the word I may be looking for is SELFISH I personally would not want to vote for someone who would put others down to get what they want. How can we sure that the person will not do something to debase us in the future? With a person like that, you can never be sure. So I ask you, would you rather vote for a politcal candidate who uses political ad campaigning to his/her own advantage in a positive way, or someone who uses their ads to anothers disadvantage in an amatuer-like way?

  1. I agree also, dirty compaigning is very unprofessional. Sadly, this type of compaigning is very effective because no one would want to have a person in office with a bad name or record. Voters remember these bad things before they go and vote, which gives good people a small chance at actually winning.

  2. I agree i would not vote for someone who is a dirty campaigner. If they have to lie or do something wrong to get into office why should i vote for them but if they do campaign in a bad way it is very effective and they do get votes still. If you put someone down it shows how bad of a person you are and if you are a bad person you should not be in office.

  3. I agree with your view, but I've also noticed while watching campaign commercials that 90% of candidates show some kind of dirty campaigning. and the other 10% that don't pretty much suck, and what I mean by that is they really have nothing to offer. Dirty campaigning is not a good look, but sad to say, its politics. Like others have mentioned its extremely effective. Also some of the things they reveal, while rude and inappropriate, can be need-to-know facts about the candidates, things that actually matter and that you may really what to know before you vote for them. It's just the difference between facts and slander where politics get dirty, and thats where I feel people should draw the line
